In a surprise and unexpected move, Andrew Flintoff announced his retirement from tests after the 2009 Ashes.
Just when there are talks of Test Cricket loosing its charm, one of the colorful characters decides to bid goodbye.
The fact that he continues to be available for one day cricket and T-20 cricket does in some way indicate to us where the charm for cricket and cricketers now lie.
Andrew Flintoff is best remembered for three events on the cricket field.
- For taking off his shirt at Mumbai after winning the one dayer against India and for Saurav Ganguly's reply to him from the Lords balcony.
- For single handedly wining the Ashes in 2005, becoming the captain and then getting whitewashed 5-0 in the 2007 Ashes series and
- his drunken late-night escapade on a pedalo at the start of a notably unsuccessful 2007 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean.
Best regards,
Manoj
PS: He was a flop in IPL2 at South Africa.
